On
26 April 2004 presentation of the project „Legal Information and Advice“was held
at Legal Consultation Centre in Akhalkalaki. Representatives of different
Non-Governmental and Governmental bodies attended the meeting:
Representatives of Akhaltsikhe Legal Consultatioin Centre: Giorgi Meskheli, Giorgi Andguladze, Vano Merabishvili, Natia Meskhidze, Nino Kakoshvili, Aleksander Kalaijev, Gocha Nebadze.
Representatives of Akhalkalaki Legal Consultatioin Centre: Ararat Esoian, Tigran Ginosian.
Representative of Ninotsminda Legal Consultatioin Centre: Armen Darbinian.

Georgia, Gabriela Buettner – Project officer, Tata Khuntsaria, invited guests:
Mindia Devnosadze - Gamgebeli of Akhaltsikhe District, Murtaz Kurmashvili - the
head of Headquarter of Akhaltsikhe Police Station, Norik Karapetian – the
chairman of Akhalkalaki Sakrebulo, Gimsher Mikeladze - Ninotsminda Prosecutor
and other representatives of governmental and non-governmental structures,
representatives of Akhaltsikhe and Akhalkalaki press and TV companies.

The project is implemented by the NGO Union of Democrat Meskhs with OSCE HCNM financing. Legal Consultation Centres are opened in Akhaltsikhe, Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda. The aim of the project is to assist the population, government bodies in working with legislation, provide them with legislative acts, and assist the local government to solve the problems connected with legislation, regional bodies.
Attendants of the presentation expressed satisfaction for the aims of the project. Successful implementation of the project will provide Samtskhe-Javakheti population with information in legal issues, their assistance and consultations in order to realize their own rights. Assistance and consultations connected to legal issues will be provided for the officials of government strictures as well. All the participants of the meeting expressed their wish and hope for future successful and fruitful cooperation.
Opening of Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda offices was mentioned particularly. As the population in these districts are not Georgians, so the problem connected with knowledge of Georgian legislation is always actual. One of the main problems in this respect is Georgian language. In the centres the citizens will have an opportunity to get acquainted with Georgian legislation and the issues connected to the legislation and get consultations in the language understandable for them.
